On November 19 we received an email from the Dr advising us that the surrogate and egg donor has both started on their treatment program. We will have to wait for another four weeks until the embryo transfer. The wait begins again.

December 7 - We received an email from the Dr advising us that the donor had actually concieved. Obviously not from the procedure. This left us wondering what we were going to do next. The Dr advised that the donor would go through the process again and would be available for donation again around early January. We didn't expect this situation to occur and as such we were a little confused as what was going on. However, we accepted what the Dr has told us as began started the waiting process again.

DECEMBER 21 - We received an email from the Dr advising us that the stimulation process for the donor and egg collection would be in two weeks time. How exciting.

DECEMBER 24 - Christmas Eve. We received an email from the Dr advising us that the egg collection was done today and that 13 eggs had been collected. What the? This was a little early however we were please with the outcome. The transfer was planned for Christmas day.

December 25 = Christmas day "Yeah". We visited our parents for a few days over Christmas. I forgot that I hadn't mention this to my brother and sister in law. Needless to say, they were both very supportive and happy for our decision to pursue this avenue to have a child. We received an email from Dr Shivani advising us that they had 19 fertilised eggs and that they were going to transfer 4 eggs and freeze the rest of them. Lets hope that we have some good news this

Let's try again

We finally arrived home on 25 October to a comfortable bed. The following day we called Doctor Shivani to discuss the outcome of our first attempt. The egg donor that we used was a proven donor however we had only managed to get 2 embryos to the implant stage from this attempt.
It was decided that we should start the process over again. In consultation with Doctor Shivani we selected a new egg donor. This time around we had better success with the egg donor as we ended up with enough embryos for three attempts at IVF. Hopefully this round of attempts will have a better outcome.

The story continues - After our visit to India we stopped in at Phuket for 8 days and Kuala Lumpur for 4 days on our way home. We used our time in Phuket to relax after out hectic schedule in India. If you are looking for that special place to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings, then I recommend that you check out the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa. Our stay here was truly amazing. This was our fifth visit to Phuket since 2005 and this resort was stands out from the crowd.

As usual, Kuala Lumpur lived up to its reputation as the shopping capital of Asia. We usually stay at the Novotel City Centre as it almost dead smack bang in the middle of the golden triangle city shopping area. We have noted a serious decline in the cleanliness and quality of service since the hotel was taken over by Novotel a little while back however, we are hoping that Novotel will address some of these issues before our next stay in mid February.

During our stay in Malaysia we received notification from the hospital that the egg donor had produced 8 eggs s a result of her treatment. Out of the 8 eggs we only two fertilised ( 1 four cell embryo and 1 two cell embryo). Both embryos were implanted in our chosen surrogate, and so began the long two week wait until the scheduled pregnancy test. We were both excited and apprehensive at the same time and pinning our hopes on a positive outcome. After what seemed the longest two weeks of our lives we received and email from the hospital. Unfortunately the results of the the pregnancy blood test were negative.

The Journey begins

Where to begin. We are two guys from Australia who would like to have a family. After much soul searching and discussion we decided to pack our bags and head off to India in the hope of fulfilling our dream. The following story traces our Journey as we progress through our journey to parenthood.

We left from the airport in Australia on 6 October 2009 for New Delhi via Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai. The following day we arrived in New Delhi after an overnight stay in Mumbai. Mumbai was an interesting place, full of interesting people. We made our way to the Mumbai domestic airport, allowing some time for delays. It took about an hour to get through security at the airport. Better to be safe than sorry I say. We arrived at the New Delhi domestic airport at about 10am. As this was our first trip to India it was safe to say that we had no Idea of what to expect however, any I can say that any future travel plans will to India will involve being picked up from the Airport by the hotel car service.

October 7 2009
We arrived at the hotel (The Velvet Apple) at about 12.15 pm. The hotel was approximately 100 meters down the road from the Phoenix hospital and centrally located to the M block markets and other local Delhi attractions. The positives for the hotel are the air-con and the complimentary Wi-Fi.

Our meeting with the Dr was scheduled for 2pm that afternoon. We met with the Dr in her rooms at the hospital. It is always nice to meet people in person after conversing with them via electronic mediums. What a pleasure it was to finally meet with the Dr D in person. I can say that she has a very good sense of humour as we laughed so much. During our meeting i observed that the Dr was looking at my hair, almost with a look of disbelief on her face. I took this opportunity to explain to her that I my hair looked the way it did as I had taken the "opportunity" the night before, after several beers, to trim my own hair, as I couldn't get to the hair dresser before we left for India. I reassured the Dr that I didn' t ordinarily cut my own hair, with what appeared to be a set of hedge clippers, and that she was in fact in no danger from me, despite what the hair cut suggested. It truly was a bad hair cut. We discussed where I could get a hair cut in Delhi however when I approached a barber shop I observed the way they were looking at my hair. I decided to keep walking and went to the shop next door. I finally had my hair fixed by a lovely hai dresser at the Phuket Hilton Arcadia about 5 days later.
